Berätta om skolans Grön Flagg-råd. Vilket uppdrag har eleverna i rådet?
During student council meetings, which were scheduled 3 times per term/6 times per year, we have a standing point called “Green flag” work. Class representatives present their work and mission. In Fritids they have set up a “Green team” that is responsible for making sure our environment and nature nearby the school is clean and tidy. The main idea was that both, class representatives and the green team inspire and motivate others to understand the importance of sustainability and resilience. In the upcoming school year, we plan that the “Green Team” will go around in the classes and give ideas, tips, feedback and inspiration to every class in school.
Hur har resten av skolans elever fått vara med och agera och göra skillnad för en hållbar utveckling på er skola, i närsamhället, nationellt eller globalt?
Student influence is very important for us at Vittra Rösjötorp, as we truly care for what our students think, the way they understand the world around them and how we can support their understanding and thinking. Teachers and students plan together their green flag work, based on the curriculum goals and school´s work with the community goals. With the community goals, we engage children and students in major societal issues in practical projects at a local level. Every year, we work on a project linked to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and then work together in preschool, primary school, after school-care centre and with local organisations to improve the society around us. We have decided to integrate green flag goals with SDG into work called community goals work, where we work systematically throughout the whole school year. Our educators, together with the school leadership are very passionate about supporting young people to grow as global, resilient citizens. During the school year 2020/21 we carried out many wonderful projects that helped in the process of starting to foster resilience. The projects raised awareness of environmental issues and helped our students to build skills while taking a leading role in improving the global environmental performance. We even won the national competition held by Håll Sverige Rent (HSR) on the theme “stop littering”. Our students could share their work and ideas on a P4 Stockholm radio, and a new about our green flag work has been also mentioned in local newspaper MittiSollentuna.
We are also excited to share that Vittra Rösjötorp International has been selected as part of 100 exemplary schools in the world to showcase our strengths at this year’s World Education Week. World Education Week allows schools all over the world to learn and innovate together, improving education globally. With our focus on how we at Vittra Rösjötorp work systematically with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on a local community level while promoting and fostering creativity, resilience and global citizenship among our students, we are proud to participate in this high-profile event, and are looking forward to sharing our expertise in October during week 40.
Hur har ni spridit ert Grön Flagg-arbete så att fler kan inspireras till att bidra till en hållbar utveckling?
We have organised the whole school celebration called “Environmental Day” in April where we celebrated nature, health and work related to it. Due to the pandemic, we could not invite parents but have indirectly tried to influence their actions/decisions as well. We have been spreading our work in the school´s weekly letters and on our Fb/IG account. During Autumn term 2021 we plan to carry out a whole school project, based on the Storyline approach to teaching. The project called Sollentuna´s Sustainability Superheroes - Creativity, Resilience and Global Citizenship will include students from F-6, where every class will, based on the UN-global goals and school´s Green Flag work foster resilience and global citizenship by sharing responsibility, perspectives, experiences, ideas and creative processes. This will enable students to connect with, co-operate and support each other to achieve a common goal. Every class will focus on a different UN SDG, where they will investigate and create sustainable solutions for life in the cities, farms, local communities, lakes, industries and other organisations. The whole school project will be presented and shared with the parents and local community in October during the UN Day Celebration, which is a big, annual event at Vittra Rösjötorp. Sollentuna municipality will collaborate with us during this project as well. We also plan to share our work at the next Storyline international conference, which will take place in Gothenburg in March 2022, in order to inspire educators from all over the world.
Vilka nya kunskaper har er Grön Flagg-resa gett er? Hur kommer ni använda era nya kunskaper i era framtids resor?
School year 2020/21 has been a “Green flag” very active year at Vittra Rösjötorp. We have started our own garden, investigated school food, joined “Stop Littering” national competition, created many precious moments, where students felt ownership, responsibility and honour about their work. We have learnt that simple actions matter. We have many ideas on how to continue the mission with school´s Green Flag work in this school year – all this has led us to plan the whole school project called “Sustainability Superheroes” where we will be able to touch many environmental questions, make a difference here and now.
Har ni haft några samarbeten utanför skolan? Om ja, berätta mer om dem.
One of the classes has connected with a school in Portugal and shared letters with them also about environmental issues. We took part in the national competition “Stop littering” and have tried to inspire others through it. In the “Sustainability Superheroes” project, we will connect with Världsnaturfonden WWF, NAV Lab Sweden, Sollentuna Municipality, hantverksbageri Sebastien på söder, etc.
The response from the children and teachers gave everyone enormous motivation to put our work on the next level and to spread it in a local community and globally (local panel discussions with municipality, international conferences, World Education Week showcase).
Varför har ni valt att arbeta med Grön Flagg?
“We aim to inspire lifelong learners and caring global citizens who are making a difference today, not one day in the future!”
