Indian Culture Association Älmhult participates in Skräpplockardagarna
ICAÄ - Indian Cultural Association Älmhult are participating in Skräpplockardagarna this year.
- It's been a long time since we couldn't organise any event to meet in person within our community. We wanted to encourage community interaction and participation to help the environment and nature by donating their time and efforts, Ravi Shankar from ICAÄ says.
What did the children in your association think about Skräpplockardagarna?
The children were very excited to participate and to be able to contribute. They had it hard to believe that people litter so much around them. They think people should be reported to the police if they litter.
Did you find anything unusual when you were out litter picking?
We were at one of the shopping areas in Älmhult and were surprised to collect 140 bags of garbage in 2 hours! We helped cleaning the water to take out a lot of plastics and paper from it. There were big posters and construction material thrown away into the water.
Is there something you like to say to other youth associations who might consider being part of Skräpplockardagarna?
Handling litter and recycling waste are two simple solutions that all individual can follow to save the environment. We all wish for a clean environment but not everyone contributes, so would like to say "Don't just wish, make it happen". The more people that participate in these events, the better the results.
Is there anything else you like to add?
The initiative taken by Håll Sverige Rent is making people aware about litter and community, school and individual cleaning acts are getting more and more popular by inspiring stories on your website
